CHAPTER 34: WEB  GRAPHICS TOOLS

Editing Images in Front Page 2000:
Front Page editing tool is not meant for creating new images. It is a tool that can be used to edit images. To see what Front Page Picture Editing Tool can do, insert a picture on to a page and then select. You will see the Picture Editing tool with several buttons.
Insert Picture from file: It allows insertion of a graphic onto a page.
Text: Enables adding text to selected graphic file.
Auto Thumbnail: Reduces the size of the selected graphic. Links to the full-size graphic.
Position Absolutely
Bring to Front
Send to Back.
Rotate Left: rotates image 90 degrees to left.
Rotate Right: rotates image 90 degrees to right.
Flip Vertical.
Flip Horizontal.
More contrast: increases image contrast.
Less contrast.
More Brightness: increases image brightness.
Less Brightness: decreases image brightness.
Crop: cuts the image to the size of the selection.
Set Transparent Color: Makes image background transparent.
Black and White: transforms image from color to black and white.
Wash Out: reduces brightness and color of the image.
Bevel: adds edges to the image.
Rectangular Hotspot: Adds a rectangular hotspot to the image.

Depending on the installation, all buttons may not be available. | Up |

Adding Text to an Image:
To add a text to your image, do the following:

Highlight image.
On the Picture toolbar, click Text button.
Type the text in the label box. Move it to where you want the text on the image.
The file must be in GIF format otherwise Front Page will prompt you to convert the file.
Save file. Click okay.| Up |

Creating Auto Thumbnail:
This feature reduces the image to a smaller size and also creates a link to the larger image.

Select an image and make it active.
On toolbar, click Auto Thumb Nail button.
The image is reduced in size and a link is created to the larger image. | Up |

Changing Image Orientation:
Front Page Image Editing tool has four buttons to change the image orientation: Rotate Right, Rotate left, Flip Horizontal, Flip Vertical.

Click image to make it active.
Click Rotate Right/Rotate Left/Flip Horizontal/Flip Vertical button alternately.

Cropping Images:
When you scan an image in, you would need to crop the image to get rid of the sections that you do not want to include. Cropping involves cutting a portion of the image and deleting the rest.

Click image and make it active.
Click Crop button on the tool bar.
Drag the dashed lines handle to create a selection of the area you want to keep.
Click the Crop button again. | Up |

Tools of the Web Graphics Trade:
There are several web graphics tools available in the market. Some of them are:

Microsoft Photo Draw.
Microsoft Image Composer.
Adobe Photo Shop.
Adobe Illustrator.
Adobe Image Ready.
Corel Draw.
Corel Photo Paint.
JASC Paint Shop Pro.
Macromedia Fireworks.
Macromedia Free Hand.
Macromedia Flash. | Up |

These are all tools you can easily learn by playing around with them. Some of them are free downloads for fixed periods of time.

Buttons and Image Composer:
One of things you will certainly need for your web are buttons. You can create buttons using Microsoft Image Composer.

To do that, Start Image Composer.

Insert Menu, Buttons.
It will insert the button type you pick from the list.
After inserting it, you can edit the button by right clicking the button and selecting Edit Button from the menu.

You can also create your own button size Gifs and put your own text on it to create you own buttons. | Up |
